At MetaGenoPolis, we use shotgun metagenomics to study all the genetic material of the micro-organisms present in a stool sample without a priori. This sequencing technique provides a more accurate picture of the intestinal microbiota, at taxonomic ranks at the species and strain level. It also makes it possible to obtain the functionality of the content of the sequenced genes in order to formulate hypotheses on the functional potentials of the microbiota. In our research projects, we map the intestinal microbiota to identify which bacteria are present and determine their role.
